Use Lost and Found as a People Locator

The Gisearch Lost and Found system is great as a people locator and have several benefits:
  • Bulletins randomly appear throughout GIsearch at the bottom of every page.

  • All bulletins are approved before they are posted to help prevent advertising and junk from appearing.

  • When posting a Lost and Found Bulletin you don't have to include your email address. **

  • Responses are routed through GIsearch so they don't get lost.

  • Every time someone posts a response to your bulletin, you'll get an email from us letting you know.

(**Helps protect you from SPAM)

Follow the directions below to use our lost and found as a people locator.

  1. Visit the Lost and Founds here. (Will open in a new window so you don't loose your directions.)

  2. Click the Post a Lost & Found Bulletin link at the bottom of the page or click here. You'll need a gisearch membership before you can post a bulletin. Register here if you don't have one already.

  3. Select the Branch and Location where you wish the lost and found to appear and click the continue button. Occasionally we will limit Lost and Founds in a certain area to those who have that area selected. Don't worry, if you select an area, it will still appear in other areas of the website.

  4. Select the duty station. As above this will help control where it appears. All lost and found bulletins, regardless of duty station will appear in some areas.

  5. Type in your lost and found title. This is the first thing people will see and it's what appears in our lost and found ads. It needs to be descriptive and should contain the name of the person or persons you are looking for.

  6. Type in your lost and found message. This should contain more information about the person or persons you want to locate. For your own privacy you should include phone numbers or email addresses. If you post your phone number, you could get calls from anyone who surfs though. If you include an email address you might get unwanted emails from people who came across your lost and found. We don't support SPAM but there are programs that harvest email addresses from web sites automatically. If they see your email address in a lost and found they will likely collect it and send you SPAM. Once again we have no way to keep these harvesters off the site and don't recommend including your email address. Don't worry though people can still contact you through GIsearch and that way you can control who gets your email address and phone number. When someone responds to your post, we will send you an email letting you know.

  7. Click submit and your bulletin will be submitted for approval. We read every lost and found posting to prevent junk ads from getting posted. It normally takes a day or two to get your bulletin posted. However, depending how busy we are, it may take as long as a week.
Note: You must register with GIsearch.com to use Lost and found as a people locator. Registration is free, so sign up now!
